Sunny and cool

Hop on over to Affairs of the Pen, where I talk about the importance of friendship in the series.

Yesterday was a cold, chilly day. I got some work done, got some reading done. I thoroughly enjoyed THE WILD WAYS by Tanya Huff. I’m reading the fifth book in Lauren Dane’s Goddess of the Blade series (in preparation for Book 6 coming out in December).

Got some writing done, but, as usual, not enough. Hoping to do a big writing push along with a big clearing out boxes from the basement push this weekend.

Watched AVENGERS: ENDGAME last night. It didn’t do it for me. I’m glad people like it, but there’s not enough character development and too many prolonged fight sequences for me. There were some good moments between actors, but overall, it just didn’t do it for me. I respect everything the actors and creators have done with the world. I know there will be more movies. I’m looking for something else right now, that’s all.

Overslept this morning, and had to rush out of the house to get the oil change done on the car. Female mechanics, everything done easy-peasy, best experience I’ve had with the car in a long time. Car runs like a dream. It runs better than after those thousands of dollars of work I had to get done on it a few months back.

Dashed to Mashpee to Roche Brothers in my quest for rye flour. I’m making an orange rye bread this weekend, and none of the closer stores have had rye flour. Well, Whole-in-the-Wallet Foods might, but I try not to shop there. I miss the health food store, where I could get a variety of flours.

Ran into a former colleague yesterday at the library, from an unhappy gig, but where she was a saving grace. It was nice to catch up. I finally got her email address, so we can keep in touch. She’s on her way to take a cruise from Amsterdam to Budapest. Good for her!

Some work at the library, then cleaning the house, then putting up the exterior Halloween decorations, then writing. And writing, writing, writing all weekend.

Have a great one! It’s supposed to be lovely here. Rumor is, it snowed in Maine.

It’s been a tough week, and I hope the next few days will even everything out.

Hop on over to Gratitude and Growth to find out the latest about the garden.

Not enough writing done, although I’m happy with the quality of what I wrote. Client challenges, not bad, just stuff that had to be dealt with. Too much stupidity and nastiness on social media. I am a big fan of the block button. I am not required to keep toxic people in my life or on my feed. My time and energy is better spent on other types of engagement.

Although, as always, the Remote Chat was terrific. What a great group of people.

I read A BETTER MAN by Louise Penny. As always, I love Jean-Guy, I love Three Pines, the third person omniscient point of view doesn’t always work for me. Although she does it better than almost any author I can think of, and when writers want to study third person omniscient POV that works, I suggest this series.

I’m reading THE ENCHANTMENT EMPORIUM by Tanya Huff. I’m pretty sure I’ve read it before. It feels familiar. Really enjoying it, whether it’s a read or a re-read!

Trying to wrestle the climactic scene and the respite scene of the radio play into submission, so I can do a final polish and send it off. Trying to wrestle the edits for GRAVE REACH into submission.

I have a noon meeting with a potential new client. I like the company, but it will be about if what I’m good at is what they need, and we’re compatible. If that’s the case, then there are location logistics to work out.

We are still all grieving Lucy’s loss. We have not found another rescue to bring in yet. The policy of shelters around here of rescues having to be only pets in the household is simply unrealistic (especially for our household) and completely ignores our decades’ long history of successful rescue adoption and integration. It’s frustrating. And it is not, in every case, in the best interest of the animals. Meanwhile, Tessa gets more and more depressed BECAUSE she’s the only cat in the household at the moment.

I have to trust that the right cat will enter at the right time. It’s always been that way.

And now, I have to get back to the page.

Sunny and warm

Blessed Lammas to all!

Yesterday was busy at work, but good, which is always nice.

I can’t believe the Cape Cod Writers’ Conference is THIS WEEK! And the Mermaid Ball is NEXT WEEK!!! And Casino Night is on Aug. 28!!!!!!

And then August will be over. And I’ll be ready for a straitjacket! 😉

Overslept this morning and then ran errands before work – it’s my Saturday “on.”

Finished Tanya Huff’s SMOKE AND SHADOWS – set behind the scenes on a Vancouver television set. Very well done and lots of fun. Started SMOKE AND MIRRORS – equally well done, although if the wardrobe crew had behaved the way their wardrobe assistant does, she would have been fired in a heartbeat! 😉 Even on some of the more dysfunctional sets, one couldn’t get away with her behavior, and wardrobe, in general, is much more the heartbeat of the set than on this particular production. Maybe it’s different on the West Coast and/or in Vancouver than out here in the East! 😉

I’m also chomping at the bit to finish the contemporary play and get back to work on both BALTHAZAAR and the fantasy novel on which I wrote so much earlier in the week. I will have to change the title of the latter – I LOVE the title, it’s one of the better ones I came up with – but, as the book develops, it’s no longer relevant. And the title needs to be relevant.

Have a great weekend – I’m sure I will have stories, next week, from the Writers’ Conference!
