Sunny and cool

Busy day yesterday, and quite stressful. In addition to the summer busy-ness, there are also situations going on in another group with whom I’m involved. I won’t be involved with that group much longer, but if I can help come up with some solutions in the interim, I will.

Archer Mayor presented at the library. He was wonderful. So articulate, so intelligent, so engaging. I’ve been a fan of the Joe Gunther series since Book 3 (SCENT OF EVIL), and then went back through books 1 & 2. SCENT OF EVIL came out in 1992, so I’ve been reading the books for a long time!

So much of what he said resonated, and I’ll be thinking about it for a long time, and, hopefully, applying it!

Home, exhausted. To bed early – couldn’t face any more cooking when I got home.

Up at 5:30 this morning to make the lemon pudding for milonga night. It will set while I’m at work.

Managed to get some work done on BALTHAZAAR this morning, too, before work. It’s not going as quickly as I’d like, and I have to fact check some things, but it’s going. The tensions are building, in ways that I think will surprise the reader (hopefully, in a good way).

Long day at work today, and then home for a quick bite, and milonga. Don’t know how long I’ll last – I’m exhausted.

Sunny and pleasant

Busy few days, but good ones.

So, DARK MATTER started on SYFY. Anthony Lemke’s in it, and I like his work, so that was my draw. He plays a character very different from the other work of his I’ve seen (which is always fun). It would have been easy to make the character a real unlikeable jerk. The fun part, when you follow a particular actor’s work, like I do with Lemke, is that I trust him, as an actor, to take me on an interesting journey and show me layers, and it doesn’t have to all happen in the first hour. So, I’m completely confident there’s more going on with the character than I’m seeing, and I look forward to the journey. I did get ahead of the plot a few times, but that’s okay. It will be interesting to see where it goes.

Saturday was very busy at the library, but we got out on time. Headed home for a quick snack, changed, and headed to Wellfleet for Tango.

It was so much fun! We had a great group, and learned a lot. Drive home was smooth, and I was on the deck, with my feet soaking in Epsom salts, and a cocktail within 45 minutes of leaving.

Sunday, I was only a little sore. Went to a garden wholesaler and got some cool stuff, including sea holly. Headed back to Wellfleet for another great tango session, and drove the instructor back to Barnstable to catch the bus to Boston.

Yeah, by Sunday night, I was sore.

Monday was a rainy, icky day full of errands – had to take my mom to the doctor, get cat food, go grocery shopping, pay bills. Wiped out by the end of it.

Watched DANIEL DERONDA (homework for Masterpiece). It was well done, but I found all the leads annoying (not the actors, the characters). I didn’t believe for a minute that Daniel was actually in love with Mira – to me, it seemed he was in love with the IDEA of her, with what she represented. She was still a better choice than Gwendolyn.

Also, Monday, prepared the food for Tuesday.

Tuesday, I baked the cupcakes for today, and packed the food for the strategic planning session for NMLC, which happened in Wareham. We had a good session, and then some of us went out for Mexican food.

Didn’t have the weird progressive dream that I had Sunday and Monday.

Busy at work today, and then the wonderful Archer Mayor does a program for us tonight! Can’t wait!

I took a few days off from the book to research – got some interesting stuff to weave in.

This is probably one of the busier weeks of the summer, but it seems every week gets busier than the previous one.

Fri. June 12, 2015: Planning A Writing, Dancing Weekend

Sunny and humid

The meeting yesterday morning went well. Issues were dealt with and progress made, always a good thing.

Stopped at home to pick up the food for the author event, went in to work. Got very little done, other than setting up for the book launch (and setting up tango, next door).

The book launch went well. It was a pleasant evening.

I was tired by the end of it. Finished Donald Hall’s memoir when I got home.

Had weird dreams in the night about the person who was the inspiration for Justin Yates in the Gwen Finnegan mysteries. Makes sense, since I’m writing BALTHAZAAR.

Contract issues seem to be worked out for the extension for HEX BREAKER — fingers crossed. And Mercury is direct, so off it goes.

Looking forward to a straight eight hours at work, and then home. Hopefully, it will be nice enough to sit on the deck with a glass of wine.

Work tomorrow, then tango in Wellfleet. I hope to get some writing done in the morning. I’ll write most of the day on Sunday, and then go to Wellfleet for another tango session. Monday, my mom has a doctor’s appointment and I have errands, plus I need to do the cooking for the strategic planning session on Tuesday, and finish up my “homework”. Tuesday, I’ll be in strategic planning all afternoon, but I’ll write in the morning.

Next Wednesday, we are honored to have the fabulous Archer Mayor do a program at the library. I can’t wait! I love his series, and I’ve been eager to meet him for a long time.

I can’t believe we’re half way through June already, and that the solstice is next weekend! Too fast.

Need to mow the second part of the meadow this weekend — and soon the front will need attention again! Getting gas for the mower needs to be added to the list of errands.

Have a great weekend.

Okay, so where’d the weekend go, again?

Granted, there were technical difficulties, so I hit the ground running behind a bit this morning, but the weekend itself was busy.

Going all the way back to Thursday, yoga was great. I got home, turned on the computer, and found out I was included in a meeting starting in 20 minutes. Warned them I was showing up in yoga clothes and headed out. It was a good meeting, longer than I expected (got home in the early afternoon), and only had an hour or so before I had to head out to friends to pick up a butterfly bush and share some laughs and wine.

Friday, the technical difficulties started, and I wasn’t able to get “Town Crier” up — I hope to get those sorted out by today. I managed to get out the manuscript critique swaps, take care of some other business, but that was kind of it.

Put the butterfly bush in, and moved a few hostas. They now line the driveway, which means I have no room for error getting in and out of the garage! 😉

Saturday’s class was cancelled (long story). We headed out and bought plants instead — a hanging basket of dark purple petunias, some more marigolds, some pink and white impatiens, red and white geraniums (pelagorums), red salvia, yellow petunias, and some herbs for the round bed (since nothing I planted from seed has come up). Put all that in the various beds. Tried to fix the technical difficulties, without luck.

What was funny was that, on Saturday, I had on my Rabbit shirt (I drive a VW Rabbit) and I go into the garden, and there are a pair of bunnies! You know if there are two rabbits now, there are bound to be more by the end of the summer. Too cute! I should be worried about the garden more, but I’m not. There’s plenty for them to eat. This morning, one of them was exploring the front yard, too! The cats are fascinated.

The right daytime running light has gone out (I just had the left one replaced a couple of months ago). Very depressing. Which means I have to drive to Plymouth at some point in the next few days to get that fixed. Another unexpected expense, although I know these guys will offer me a fair price.

Read an Archer Mayor novel and a Ruth Rendell novel. Always terrific to learn from the best. Now, let’s hope I can effectively apply what I’ve learned!

Sunday was my day off anyway, and it was a lazy one. Reading, writing (worked on both House Magic and the first Bellini Girls story). Tried to get geared up for the coming next few weeks, which will be very busy.

This morning, managed to get back on line, so far. Got the critiques from my swap partners — I’m very excited; their comments are SO helpful, and now I can clarify where I confused myself. Back to work on that today, along with a bunch of other stuff.

I’ve landed a six-week contract for a few articles, one due per week, for a site, so I’ll tackle that, too, and there’s promo that needs to be done for HEX BREAKER. And things, like. oh, getting back to finish CRAVE THE HUNT.

And it’s time to put the flea/tick medicine on the cats again. THAT’ll be an adventure.

Better get going, it’ll be a long week.
