One of those things . . .(an anecdote)

I was teased yesterday for being “overly polite” on the road as I ran errands — letting cars turn in front of me, etc.

I figure, just because I’m grumpy and not yet feeling the spirit of the season doesn’t mean I should take it out on everyone else. I mean, it’s not the little old man trying to make a left turn in front of me’s fault that I’m experiencing the hazards of freelancing, and, in general, feeling out of sorts with the world. All he’s trying to do is buy cat food.

I subscribe to the theory that, if everyone lets one car in front of them during traffic congestion, we all get there in time. It’s when you try to let one car in and that big SUV decides to muscle past too that I am, shall we say, less than polite! 😉

But yesterday was a polite day.

And today, I’m staying home!

  1. LOL I LOVE your perspective! As we drove to and fro the parents’ house this week, I had to find my “happy place” repeatedly and remember that not everyone on the highway is courteous, nor are they all assholes like the ones that push you off the road in order to get five feet ahead. Today there was an older gent crawling through the park, a string of cars behind him, me first. I backed off as I understand some people don’t like driving through the park with the deer, nor do they enjoy driving in rainy weather. That didn’t stop the putz behind me going right up my tail. I simply turned on the Christmas station and decided it was time to sing instead of whine. :)) I hope folks are that patient with me when I’m older and a bit nervous behind the wheel.

  2. What a great post! I feel the same way too. If we were all just “that polite” to other drivers, what a great place the world would be!

  3. I’m with you on the “zipper” thing with cars, one in, one goes, etc – but I do it even when I’m having a road rage day. I’m just shouting at them to “go on, then” at the same time. :o)

    Welcome back, by the way.

  4. Great post we need to get everyone to read this page now! Having lived in Germany for 5 years in the past, I was always amazed that during some commercial breaks they (government) would show driver educational clips. These ranged from winter driving & prep tips, to courtesy and how to increase the throughfare of traffic. Someone needs to copy these ideas!
