Waning Moon
Neptune Retrograde
Sunny and warm

Short post today, because I have to finish my Breeders’ Cup article and get it out before I leave for the theatre at 10 AM – and I won’t be back until 11:30 tonight.

BC Day was great yesterday. Exhausting, but great. For me, one of the biggest joys was that, on the synthetic surface NOT ONE horse was injured and had to be euthanized during the course of the race day. That’s the first time since I started covering the BC that this has happened. Right there, the synthetic track’s got my support. It’s safer, even though this generation of horses has quite a few that don’t like the surface yet.

At the last minute, I fell in love with a filly named Goldikova, who ran against the boys in the BC Mile. She strutted into the paddock full of attitude – and she was the smallest horse in the race. She wiped the track with all of them. It was amazing. And her trainer is the jockey who won on another filly, Miesque, several years ago, back to back in the same race two years in a row.

I’ve got some work to do on the Cozy outline. Some ideas have been swirling, and I need to get them down on paper before they’re gone. I don’t have enough yet on my scene list to feel comfortable jumping in to Nano. I’ve only got enough down to cover the first few days’ worth. And, with everything I’m juggling, I don’t have the time to stop to figure things out.

I hope to finish the edits on “The Possession of Nattie Filmore” today during my dinner break, so I can merge the edited text with the page and cover design, convert it, and upload it.

Anyone know how I get rid of a header on a first page? I’m having a problem with that. I want it on all the other pages, but I can’t get it off the first page. And if I put it in manually on the second page, it goes back on the first page. The “help” function on Microsoft is, of course, useless.

I was about to make a manuscript submission, and I have second thoughts about the publisher. My gut’s telling me not to submit it there; I’ve got to go with my gut, so it’s back to the market list to figure out other possibilities.

This week, the western has to be the primary focus, or I’m never going to get it done, edited, and out in time for its deadline. I have a feeling I’m going to rewrite Chapter Two for the umpteenth time, because I want to introduce the antagonist there, too. I’m not sure if it works if we don’t meet him until Chapter Five. Maybe it does. We see the results of his handiwork in the opening. I have to play with it some more.

Back to the page.

  1. Goldikova rocked!!! I was so glad she won. But, boy oh boy, Curlin certainly ran out of steam there at the end.

  2. There’s a first page different header box you can uncheck in the header/footers area. Did you find it?
It works to get a different header.
