Happy Bastille Day! (Um, happy?)

Resistance. That’s what I’ve been fighting with this article that’s due tomorrow. I don’t want to write it. However, I’m contracted to write it, so too damn bad for me, right?

I did some work on it yesterday, but not enough. I have day work AND a show today, so it’s not like there’s a whole lot of writing happening. Plus, there’s life stuff to deal with.

So I just better get over myself. I may be up very, very late tonight if I don’t get it together. And I had plenty of time to do it, but I procrastinated.

The past couple of years I’ve procrastinated every time I’ve been contracted by this particular company – I think that tells me something.

Plus, what I’ve written so far really sucks.

Acupuncture was terrific. My healer could tell who caused which of the knots, and broke most of them down. Yeah, I know, I need to practice detachment, which is something I’m no good at. I’m either completely immersed in something or I’m done.

This morning was about dealing with HEX BREAKER deadlines and cover art. I’m in discussions with the cover artist, who has some good ideas, but there’s an overall slant to the cover I think needs to happen later in the series, so we’re discussing it. Even if it turns out to be in a different direction than I’d prefer, if I want this to work and be a building block for future books, I have to run with whatever I end up with and say, “Hey, this is fun, come play”. Because the story IS fun, it is a little different, it’s not easily boxed. The more fun I can have with its distribution and marketing, the more fun the audience can have when they find it.

Off to the theatre for at least a 14 hour day.

  1. Have a good day, Devon. Glad some of the knots got worked out. How fun to be working on the design on and marketing for the book!

  2. Hope your day goes well, Devon.

  3. OY–14 hours! I hope you get through it. And I hope you’re able to get your writing in, too, if you haven’t already.

And hmmmm, I wonder why you find yourself in this situation every time you have to write for this client? Definitely food for thought…

    Have a good day!

  4. I’m glad the acupuncture worked. I hope you meet your goals today. Thinking of you and sending good thoughts.

  5. I hate it when something doesn’t want to be written. When it happens too many times, then maybe it’s time to call it a day. It’s horrible when you have something hanging over you that you just can’t get on with and sometimes can be detrimental to other stuff. Best to get rid and clear your time for something more productive and motivational.

  6. Ah, the procrastination devil–sometimes it is a wise imp. d:)
