ALL DESTROYED!

I was two pages from finishing the screenplay. I hit SAVE — it says there was a problem and the ENTIRE FILE DISAPPEARED from my flashdrive and everything else — including everything I saved previously.

ALL GONE. DESTROYED. UNABLE TO BE RETRIEVED. AT SOMEONE ELSE’S COMPUTER.

I’m in tears.

OH MY GOSH! Devon, I am so sorry! I know the frustration your feeling. Call a professional! Perhaps all is not lost.

I hope you get it back.

I can’t call a professional — this is not my computer. I’m using somoene else’s here on the road.

Oh, my. That is awful, Devon. I hope that somehow you can get it back. Will the pc’s owner let you call a professional? It’ll be on the hard disk somewhere. Sending hugs your way. (Bill Gates has a lot to answer for.)

That is absolutely shitty. It can’t be lost! EVERYTHING is retrievable, if you find the right person…and I hope you do!

Crossing fingers you can get it back!

First: ask the owner if you can contact a Data Recovery specialist–they may be able to find it. Also, have you looked in the other files on the computer? I once had a similar thing happen and somehow I’d managed to put the entire folder in ANOTHER folder. If the problem is on the flashdrive, see if someone at a computer tech store can *crossing fingers* find it hidden.

Hugs, Devon, I do understand. I’ve lost work before. I finally created a private gmail addy that I use for nothing else and every day I email my updated work to myself–as well as store it on a memory stick. This way, it’s not stored on my computer and if there’s ever anything horrendous (knock wood there won’t be), then I have an off-site version.

    I’m so sorry.
    Hugs,
    Yasmine

This is every writer’s worst nightmare, but please don’t give up! As others have noted, data CAN usually be recovered. Good luck!

I cringe for you, wordmate. I sure hope you can get the flashdrive data recovered. I know I’d give it a try. Hugs.

My condolences, Devon. I know how much hard work you put into your script. I doubt there’s a single one of us who hasn’t lost writing thanks to a computer glitch, but when it’s something so large and personal, that loss is all the more profound. I’m glad to see that in the wake of this disaster, you’re moving forward undaunted. I know that your second attempt will be even more brilliant than the first!
