I'd have to re-read the book (which made me so furious I literally threw it across the room when I read it years ago) to quote chapter and verse, but I just hated the story and was infuriated by it. Well now, Devon, I disagree with that. Won't go into a dissertation on it here, but one of the primary themes of Hardy's novels is the plight of the individual against an oppressive society. (TV shows) I mean, at this point, I see a preview and I'll turn to Hubby and say "Oh, that one won't get past three episodes." You're absolutely right. About the "money" people.
